Port of Switzerland

Port of Switzerland is the national transport hub along the freight corridor Rotterdam – Basel – Genoa. Our three ports, Basel- Kleinhüningen, Birsfelden and Muttenz Auhafen, handle six million tons of goods and more than 120 000 containers per year. This corresponds to 10% of all Swiss imports. One-third of the mineral oil products and every fourth container are handled in the Rhine Ports terminals. All types of goods can be transported thanks to excellent connections via rail and road.

Around 80 port companies and 3000 employees provide logistics services for containers, bulk goods, general cargo and liquid goods.

As the only Port in Switzerland, an international network like EFIP is vital for us. Collaboration in Europe and among other inland ports gives us the opportunity to develop and strengthen the importance of Inland Waterways. For Port of Switzerland, the European Federation of Inland Ports has a great importance. With the former director Hans-Peter Hadorn and the actual director Florian Röthlingshöfer we are happy to be part of the Presidency of EFIP. Thanks a lot for the trustworthy cooperation in the past and upcoming years. And not to forget: Happy birthday, EFIP!

The Port of Switzerland is very active in digitalisation (RPIS) and the development of renewable energy such as green hydrogen.
We like to contribute, learn, and share our experience with other inland ports along the Rhine, but also on the Danube and other waterways in Europe.
